Accommodation and advice on fishing Mozamique

Hi,

I represent a group of 8 that would like to start making regular trips to fish in Mozambique. We need advice on where to fish and stay. Ideally we would like to start fishing the southern part and make our way north as we gain experience and get acustomed to the place.

Also advice on when to fish would be most appreciated.

Pooven here's my ten cents worth; Ponta Malogane is a nice area to start in the south. There is decent campsite facilities, reasonable chalets, a small shop and a restaurant right adjacent to the beach/bay. Lots of places to try from along this piece of coast all within relatively short driving range. You will need a 4x4 though. The bays along this area provide good dropshot opportunities and there are GT's as well as several other smaller kingfish species in the area. You can fish from the rocky areas up and down the coast for stumpies and other rock fish. The area is in the process of being declared a MPA, so be careful where you fish and which species you target. Find out from the local authorities. There is a maratimo office in Ponta du Ouro. I think Ellias is still the port captain. Be aware that beach driving is banned even though he may try and sell you a permit and state otherwise. (he does not appear to be the most honest official I have met there).

The fishing gets markedly better the further north you go but Maolgane is a good place to start. The border is also a piece of cake there. Hit it at the right time and its less than 30 mins to get through. Komati border can be an utter nightmare at times. Have been fishing this area for over 7 years now and never had any problems. There are some big sandsharks as well as other taxmen to be had from the beaches as well. The water is normally pretty clean as there are no major rivers flowing into the sea in the area. Beacuse the water is so clean, you need to look for the right areas and read the water otherwise it can be a tough area. Dawn and dusk are probably the best times from the shore.

John, does the port captain still come around to the malongane camp to sell/issue the permits for launching and fishing, or do you need to go into the office in du ouro?

Which route do you take? Where exactly is this place? I do not see any of these places mentioned on the map. I will travel from Benoni and use the N12 or the N17.

I am also keen to go to Malongane but I need your advice here please.I would love to do R&S fishing only and I have a 4x2 with difflock.Wil that help?I need to know as to when is the best time to go there and wht species would I encounter.what is the accomodation like there and is there a website I can check out.

Hi There,

John gave me some great advice on the area as I was planning a trip there in June, unfortunately things did not go according to plan and had to cancelle the trip... boat not finished wife did not get passport work .... ext

Went to South Coast and met some great guys in the process, we looking to go to Moz next year around June again, want to go to guinjata area, what can you tell me about those areas?

I drive a 4x2 with diff-lock and tow a 4.5m rubberduck, friend drive 4x4 towing jet-ski so we got 4x4 for beach launching not sure what other vehicles will be going with yet.

Any advice, how have things been in moz lately, hear good and bad stories, last time I was there was back in 2004 and went up to Vilanculos and back with no problems.

Hi All
Also tempted to go up North (towing a boat) again. The last time I have been just up to Makanjeta (without Boat)and it ended up unpleasant...(The unwritten Rules & Regulations). Would be nice to hear what is the latest as far as rules and regulations.(Real ones and the unexpected ones)

Pooven if you want detail pls give info. Fishing type, vehicle typr etc. Cant send you to Ponta if your in a golf.
