In the latest Berkley DVD a 30kg GT is landed on a 700 series Abu after a four hour fight with 10lb Fireline.
Enough said!!
Did Basil Manning have anymore because I'm also interested in one?

Good on you bro - the Excellor is a decent reel but is way overpriced -  and overrated due to the excellent marketing on ESA !!

I also saw the DVD and I was impressed !!

Hi Guys,

These reels are fantastic. From the Xcraftic alloy that they are made of, to the sealed, bushed, Carbon Matrix drag that CAN stop the bus, the 800’s have bearings instead of the bushing found on the 700’s.

I would also like to add, that before we put these reels on the store shelves, that we tested them by over spooling them with line rated to heavy for the reel and then tied it to the back of a car and tried our best to destroy the reel, I have kept that specific reel and with no repairs necessary, and I am still fishing with it.

Enjoy

Van was it the 704lx that Adam and Earl were using? I'm looking for the same size range as the Daiwa 2500. The reel they used looked about the size I'm looking for.

I want to check the E.L. Shops otherwise I'll have to try order one. I wasn't going to buy straight away but when I saw the post about one for R799 I got all excited:lol:1 and now I'll just have to look for the next best price!

Thanks, I snapped one up on Friday and can't wait for it to arrive today. R799 is an absolute steal as they are now R1200-R1400!!

My reel arrived and it's a beauty, can't wait to use it::S.

I beleive Abu to be the leaders in precision reels for light tackle fishing and I can see that this one is no exception. You just have to take the spool off and see the bush the spool runs on. This bush system eliminates the need for the little drag washer under the spool.

That little drag washer is the weakness in the drag system of almost all spinnng reels. I have never understood why reel manufacturers have a huge multidisc drag system on top and then have 1 washer the size of a 10c peice on the bottom.

WELL DONE ABU FOR PUTTING IN SOME THOUGHT.:first:first
