A stupid Question?

Hi guys, as you can probably gather, I am a very social "papgooier" that, as far as my ego goes in respect to fishing, have been levelled with the ground.

My last two outings resulted both in absolute BLANKINGS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! forkit its not nice.

I must say that the one was at Baja Dam where we couldn't get our lines out as a result of the water grass and the other was at the Crocodile river in Brits where the river came down with such a force due to the sleuth gates being opened that a ton of bricks would not have kept the lines in the water- some consolation at least that these were circumstances beyond my control.

Now I am desperate to engage in a day trip to a place where I can build up some sort of pride again. So my first question is- any suggestions on a dam, good for a day trip where blanking seldom occurs.

Secondly I would like to know why a swd is used as a backing on a floatie, is the reason for using a floatie not to pull up your bait from the surface gunk for better presentation to the fish and would putting a swd backing not pull the floatie down thereby nullifying the purpose of the floatie.

Aston Lake (Springs, hy is bietjie moeliker maar ek het met al my uitstappies die jaar al vis gekry)

Floatie Issue: Ek onvervind dat die vis partykeer nie te veel like van goed wat te hoog van die bodem af dryf nie, maar ek moet ook se dat hulle wel partykeer net die floaties like. Ek sit altyd n backing op, maar speel ook rond met backings soos die dag aangaan.

My maat, welkom hier. Jy het by 2 moeilike spots geblank, so moenie stress nie. Dis reg wat die ouens hier sê, Vaaldam kan jy nie blank nie. Ok, behalwe as die weer jou bedonner. Wat die degie/floatie issue betref:gooi n stroppie met n floatie en n degie in n glas water. Dan sien jy dat die degie ni so n hectic effort uit voer nie. Vergelyk di balance met n plain degie! Di dudes met di woordeskat noen dit 'krities gebalanseerd'. Soos Nike sê JUST DO IT.

The reason for the floatie and dough combination is simple.

Carp feed by sucking in food matter from the bottom and filtering the substrate out of the gills.

The adding of a dough with a floatie makes the bait criticaly balance in other words the bait lays lightly on the bottom and the slightest current makes the bait move (in otherwords as light as a feather)

When the carp moves in to feed on your feedball and sucks in the bait is sucked in with the feed and the fish hooks itself.

I've watched a 5kg carp suck in a criticaly balanced boilie from about 20cm.

Small swd and the bait will float, plain floaties and the bait will float this will keep the bait among the loose particles comming of the feed ball and or keep it out of the silt and grass on the bottom.
