A friend took me to Mofam a few days ago and Jeez we were excited! Woke up at 5 in the morning and left for the place where we had heard huge bass coming out of this dam/river. We got there at about 10 because we stopped a few times on the way for breakfast and so on. We got on the water and having never fished this venue before we never knew how to approach it.
My partner caught his first little fish of 700 grams on a white fluke by a tree and I thought in my mind that Im going to have a silent competition and try and land more fish than him. I got the second bass on a senko in 1ft of water just as it hit the water. small 500 grammer. ((r(e(ling
We moved on along the bank and saw all the cover we had, we did not know where to start. We fished a dock and my partner got the 3rd bass, his second fish. We moved up to a tree and I was wanted to go for the BIG MAMAS now so threw my big fat senko into that tree and jigged it up and down a bit. BAM! Out of nowhere I got such an aggressive hit I thought I was going to get a heart attack, I striked and tried my best to haul his ass out of that tree with my 11.4kg braid((r(e(ling. This huge fish was fighting me for about 10 seconds and I felt nothing on the line, it was tight and the fish was still on but not moving. I realised that I had got the hook buried deep in some wood and still felt the wriggling of this big bass. I nearly started crying, my bass of a lifetime lost because of a damn tree!
I pulled that line so hard hoping the fish was not going to get off and at the same time hoping the braid wouldnt snap. At last I feel slack on the line and.... no more fish, just a branch, a bent hook and unfortunately a bit of flesh of the fishes mouth on the hook. sob sobbw_l_)
We carried on and I am still trying to get over what just happened. We fished the rocky/sandy banks with soft plastics and I knew that it would take forever to find the fish. I whipped on a Rapala 5ft and a few casts later had a 1kg largie in the boat. We trawled along the bank and my partner desperately trying to nail a few more fish, I felt bad because I was catching more fish than him on his B-Day.
We reached a stump and first cast with my faithful rapala right against the stump nailed a 1.1kg. So far the days going fine for me but these are low results for Mofam, for us. We carried on late in the afternoon getting a bit impatient that the fish of Mofam weren't co-operating with us. Late in the afternoon My partner got his lure stuck high in a tree so he decided to climb it and I went off with the boat a short way down when a 400 gram largie took my 12ft berkley lure. I felt real bad for my friend now because I was beating him on his special day. I tried not to show any sign of pleasure and just chucked him back pretending to have no interest in the catch.
We headed back for the camp and on the way we trawled the banks with our weak trawling motors. I decided to make one last cast to another tree and my friend doubled the boat back because he thought he had missed a fish in the previous spot. While we trawled, I hit something HARD, that felt like a rock, then I felt like I was stuck to a tree and a few seconds later this fish broke the surface:
