9ft tackle setup

Good day fellow anglers

I am looking for a 9ft + reel setup to help me catch some decent fish for the forseeable future. The tackle will mostly be used for surf and estuary lure fishing (and estuary live bait fishing).

Any tips you guys can offer? I have tried searching Sealine but I can find anything recent (unless I am blind).

Any useful tips will be helpful.

Hi Piranha,

as always suggestions on what tackle to buy always comes back to budget and how much you want to spend.

I have a decent , what I class as mid range set up on an Assassin Rock hopper - 9 ft and have matches it with a 3000 series Daiwa Crossfire reel - its a few years only and have use it for everything from fishing surf to estaury's and from lure ( spoons , drop shot and and plugs) to bait fishing for Galjoen and other reef fish.

I like it coz its light and i can cast it for ages without getting tired, I also like the cork handle on the rod ( easy to clean and non-slip)

I am sure others will have other ideas but this works for me

What I am looking for is a small light shoulder or chest bag to put my lures etc in - I want something that is easy to wade with and easy to get access to my lures.

What surf and estuaries will you fishing in?

If you will be doing more surf fishing then 9-10ft is good because you will get some extra distance and cast a bit heavier lure but if you will be doing more estuary fishing a shorter and lighter rod 7ft6 to 8ft6 would be preferable because it will allow you to fish for longer and impart more action into walking baits and buck tails.

As pervious post will show buy the best Shimano reel you can afford and get a rod that balances with the reel.

I currently fish with two 9ft setups, a 9ft Berkley air and Shimano Calcutta 400 with 20lb Daiwa J Braid (old school but very nice for fishing spoons or live bait) and a 9ft sensation pro with Shimano stradic 5000 and 20lb Fireline, good for basically everything. I would consider both a bit on the heavy side for most of our estuary fishing.
