87 kg (192 lb) Goonch from Ramganga River

On May 27 well-known globetrotter Jakub Vagner broke his own IGFA record from 2009. The fish was caught in Corbett National Park. At least four specimen over 70 kg were caught in this stretch of the river in the last years.

That is a monster. Is this the same guy who was in the show about them, where they fished for them?? Goonch are actually pretty cool fish, nice set of teeth too!!

Yes that is the guy. He holds multiple world records for all species of fish but he loves the "catfish" species the most.

One of his Biggest if not the Biggest is the WR for a 210kg not pound but Kg Piraiba catfish which he caught in the amazon. He fought for 6 1/2 hours to land it. :fst:

Love the TV Series, need to add this species to my bucket list!

That must of been an epic fight,any idea what sort of tackle he was using?

Bucket list hell yeah!!

Not sure of his equipment on this particular catch, guess it will come out in the next series, however i do know that on the Piraiba which he caught on the amazon he was using deep sea tackle which is made for Marlin fishing.

I rememeber that, think he was using a Penn International 80 leverdrag....serious firepower

Im interested to know under which line class he claimed the record or if it was just an open class....braid or mono ....what braking strain etc

Jakub only targets these river Giants on IGFA all tackle record classification tackle, in other words there is no playing around, when they bite the battle is joined.
