80hp yamaha outboard parts

Anyone know if the 1988 80hp 2 stroke gear case is interchangeable with the 85/90hp parts 1988 and later, would a 2000 model also fit?

I have 2 casings to replace. The motors are "apparently grey" as Yamaha never imported a 80hp 2 stoke only the 4 stroke???

The models are 80 AEO – 6ho – l – 400452 the 400452 being the serial.

Boats.net also cannot help with spares as "international models" nor sure what that means? serials not listed, cannot supply parts.

I have the parts catalog for the motors and the part no's. Yamaha SA say they could possibly get parts, but they will be more expensive. Than say the normal 90 as they did not bring in the model.

Anyone know of 2 units new/used or if the 90 will fit?

Thanks for any help

Hi snotslang, both cracked on the threads prop side, so welding not first option. they seem to like to do this. good used would be great.

The motors otherwise are good, no noises and good compression.

i'll get hold of him tomorrow / or can drop at your spot if cool, have plenty work to do on the boat so no major hurry.

whats your take on spraying motors, they badly faded from standing 7 years, not that I mind, but would look better. I can spray / have facility, just most sprayed motors look bad after a while, cracks and bubbles?

barry it works, the prepping must be done correctly, sanded down to almost bare metal if you got time or a labourer let it shine!!!!then firstly use the yellow ms primer then the gray primer then your basecoat colour then 5coats clear coat then it will last for ages,or if you can have it sandblasted to bear metal will be perfect if got a contact with the decals looks just like the original for a quater of the price

So 2K is best? ok, so strip parts and paint, not spray over the whole motor. most I've seen are not done so great then. I wonder if one could galvanize the metal parts? or annodise? for these 2 old ones galv may look good!

yes 2k is best for the primer.dont think galvinize will work tho.you dont have to strip the motor sand it down just like that or find out about the sandblasting that will be the best and easyest material will cost you about a grand to do both

cool do not really want to take spanners to the covers, could be never ending story...EIS can sandblast, just to keep the sand out the motor!

you can always take off the powerheads also very easy will cost you about r200 for the traygaskets for both but i recommend original gaskets will be about r200 each then you can always replace the bottom crank seals also recomended because your motors has been standing for a while and it a very easy job

that' sounds like a good option, so power head comes off like the gear case, one piece, few bolts? as last time with old motors gear box had to do few helicoils.
