4m dinghy

Hi Guys

I know that this might have been covered before.  if you dont want to respond for the 100th  time then just link me to the posts.

I have just bought a 4m Dinghy currently under oar/man power.  I know that at Still bay it does not need a river license if it does not have an engine.  However I would like to also take it out in Melkbos or on very calm days out around the kelp areas.  Never going further than I am prepared to Swim or those that are with me are prepared to swim. 

What are the regulations regarding such small vessels.  I know on the west coast people row out in kreef backies.

Later the will fit a small 5-10 Hp motor.

Probably much the same as for a kayak.

On your fishing permit you will need Section 10 "Fishing from a vessel " permit as well. (Extra R94.00)

No other restriction's that I can think of except I did see somewhere that you do need flares, 10m rope, bailing device, life jackets and carry drinking water.

As far as I know 15HP or less does not require skippers ticket. Boat might have to be surveyed for 1nm, not 100% clear on this.

As soon as you put a motor on it does need to be surveyed.

No I dont THINK so. It depends on how far you intend going. maybe the boating fundis can assist.

thanks for the info so far Guys.

from what I can see there are 2 change points > 3m and >15 hp.  if you intend to go into the sea but not at night you will require some and less than 1nm off shore then some safety equipment is required.  Does'nt seem like a skippers license is required under 15hp but will investgate further and feedback. 

it would be nice if someone could provide a summary.  Too much legal jargin for my ADHD Brain
