40 4CIL MERC

Hi I am thinking of bying a 1998 40 hp 4 cil 2 stoke merc ,how good are thy?Any body running one,the moter has only been on fresh water ,problems I shood know about?Going for R 8000.

Hi RAKA.

Ive got 2 x 50hp 4 cyl Mercury's on my rubberduck. Ive replaced a stator on one motor and the standard services like any other motor require, and had no problems thus  far. Very happy with the machines and they are reliable (Like the hilux bakkies).
It does, however, depend on how the previous owner looked after his machine.

Thanks for the feedback,as far as I ve herd it is mostly the stater that goes.
