34lb vs 54lb trolling motor

Hi guys, this may sound stupid, but what is the difference between the 2 speed wise? I am looking to buy one for my inflatable, the 34lb is near a grand cheaper than the 54lb one.

The 54lb thrust has more pushing power than the 34lb thrust. The 34lb is a smaller trolling motor than the 54lb thrust one.

If you choose the bigger one you may have more speed and power, but it will also deplete the same size battery quicker, hence to get the same amount of battery hours you may have to use a larger battery.

Personally I will choose the bigger one.

thanks for the reply, anyone tested both out? I wonder what the actual speed difference is, if its much greater or what.

think the main difference will be the torque not the speed those motors are not made for speed . the bigger the boat the more torque one need to get it moing and to steer it around

oh i see, so a 34lb would be ample for a 4 man mariner, weight onboard should be around 150kg max including the boat.

I just want it to be able to move perfectly even when the wind is blowing quite a bit, i dont want to get blown away cause the motor cant push the boat through the water against the wind or choppy river water.

by the sounds of it the 34lb should do fine for such a light load.

34lb would be more that enough for what you require! a 46lb can move a big 14ft bass boat with ease. 

Those inflatables weigh nothing compared to those but the friction might be bit more depending on the hull.

Either 34lb should do the trick
