3-D Eyes

I can't find eyes around 15mm in diameter, so I made my own.

Step one, cut 15mm discs (mirror tape), 10mm discs (yellow) and 8mm discs (black) vinyl.

Step 3.
Make sure it is lying flat, then mix up some epoxy (flexible) or clear resin (rigid), and spread it on each from the centre outward using a syringe. go just over the large disk.

Step 4.
Peal away the main body of the mirror tape leaving the eyes on still stuck on the backing. Leave to dry.

Bobs your auntie!

3-D eyes in 5 minutes.

P.S. you will see I left 2 eyes uncoated so you can see the difference. The one with the cross through it is a dud. I didn't put enough resin on it.

Very, very nice Bennie!!!

I'll bet they look better than the pic suggests.

That is shweet.

I'm battling with my "version", too time consuming.

Tauruck,
I'll cut some vinyl for you if you want and send it up with your squids order. They are leaving tomorrow, so let me know what colours/sizes you want cut. Bear in mind this won't work with resin if you making them much bigger than 15mm because it runs flat after that. But you can go bigger with an epoxi because it is thicker.

Howzit Bennie.... Those look great, and awesome idea there mate!

In terms of making these or bigger eyes, you get a Doming resin that may work well on the eyes, and that should not run flat on the bigger models (although 15mm is plenty)

Thanks for the offer bru but I'm OK. The eyes I use are 20mm and I'm just about done with the tooling.

Bennie,
Is that sticky back strong enough to hold the eyes with the rigours of trolling and fish bait etc? I've given up on sticky things to hold eyes on my DIY lures.... after the first trip all of them come back blind....

cheers
Hi John,
Good point! However, we generally clear coat over any stickers. That keeps it in place. But it is cool to put eyes on even if the lure goes blind eventually. The mirror tape I'm using though sticks like sh!t to a blanket and are quite a bugger to get off once stuck.

Been playing some more with eyes! Can make them quick quick now!
These look cool! Because of the big dome, they seem to follow you!
