2011/2012 saw the start of the WCSAA Mini League, with some 120 anglers registering, and about 60 fishing each event (some only fished once).

This year the Mini League will continue on the West Coast, and there are a few surprises.

Each Angler will received a basic "West Coast Kit" sponsored by Big Catch. This will very basic with 3 or 4 sinkers, swivels and hooks.

Each angler will also receive a basic bait pack sponsored by Agio Baits. This will be 3 x mullet, 2 squidos and 3 sardines.

Pure Fishing will be sponsoring prizes at the end of the 3 comps to thewinners in the form of Rods and Reels (Penn, Fenwick, Berley, Etc).

The winners of each division will also receive medals (also silver and bronze)

A clinic will be held before the first comp by WCSAA Anglers, and theywill also be availible during the day for advise and assitance.

All entrants will receive a certificate at the last comp.

The main target species will be the Bluntnose sandshark, and will count as sight fish (2 points) except where the required length for the minimum 2kg has been exceeded, where the weight will then determine the points.

The Following division has been agreed upon this year:

U/8, U/12, U/16 Assisted - allowed to put on bait and cast for the junior, but not strike and play the fish.

U/8, U/12, U/16 Non-Assisted - No assistance allowed apart from landing the fish in the shallows and bringing it to the weigh marshal.

The details and contact numbers are on the flyer and the registration form (please download the form here, complete and return to Jaco van Rensburg.

Also Look for us on Facebook at WCSAA Mini League and "LIKE" the page. A lot of communication will be done via Facebook as well.

Please Contact Jaco van Rensburg at jaco@absolutevending.co.za should you require assistance.

Hoping to see a lot Sealine Kids attending.

Yours in Angling

Hi Colin,

The Lapa is a place on Soverby. Between Veldrif and Dwarskersbos. I am not certain about the permits for youngsters. I think from a certain age but am not certain

there is a soverby close to Fish hoek also that is why I asked you will it be here or in Velddrif.

The group I wish to bring along is youngsters who don`t know how to fish an dI`m assisting them with 15 6`ft rods, will it be appropriately for them to use in your compi

It's the one in Veldrif for sure.

Depending on the rating of the rod it may be fine. To give you an idea i have landed Sandies on my 7'MH dropshot rod but if I were to hook a ray or a big, 90+cm, Sandie then I would have struggled big time as it lacks the pulling power. It is a great light tackle spot though so the rods may be fine....just pray a blue Ray doesn't pick them up.....won't cause any harm or damage but will make for one helluva exciting 30 seconds before it smashes the line!

This is a great initiative from WCSAA, it is the best way to grow the sport and your youngsters will get plenty of assistance from the guys on hand. Your best bet is to contact Jaco. He is best placed to give you all the info you require.

I took a group on a trip to laaiplek early in the year and 1 boy pulled a 3.5kg sandshark with that rod so this group will be a new group that im taking because i want to give a alternative to these boys that don`t have any alternatives in our community except drugs and gangsterism

That's great. Good on you! They should be well kitted then. Give Jaco a call and hook them up with the league. It will be great fun for them and you!

What did you do about the last groups fishing permits?
