2006 Evinrude 150 E-TEC

Hi All,

Could any of you shed some light on these motors?

How reliable are they?

From my research online they seem rather bulletproof and out performs most other in class?

Light on fuel as well?

2 of my mates owned E-tecs. One had no issues, other one endless problems. One will buy again, other thinks they make better anchors than outboards.

Personally, I'm not a fan of the brand. I'm sure someone out there loves them.

My brother had a pair of 115s put around 3 or 4 hundred hours on them had trouble with an injector that rectified itself but was replaced under warranty if I remember correctly and had one issue where a battery overcharged and swelled up like a football but we not to sure what the actual cause was. Hes just sold them and lost about 30% of the purchase price which isn't bad at all. I liked them they where very punchy motors and made his boat go like crackers, they where very quite as well as fuel efficient.

You do have to ask... Why did he sell them and replace with Yamaha 4-strokes? Don't think they had high hours..

That there seems to be the tale of Etecs .... hit or miss. Personally, I would go for one of the Japs where you are almost guaranteed to get reliability. If you look at Gumtree for an extended period, you will see more newish Etec motors pop up for sale than Yam/Suz/Honda combined. People just don't have a reason to take a newish 4 stroke Jap motor off.

I have decided to go for it. My first non Japanese motor.
