Thanks Limpopoking. You haven't upset the apple cart too much. I did think about the smaller motors from a fuel perspective and maybe I might still go that route eventually but I've been on one with two 30's and I would say with three guys at 85kg each and 7 or 8 nice fish plus 50 kg of gear etc even the 30's can feel a little borderline.

2 cylinder engine you have a combustion every 1/2 turn of the fly wheel.

Ok thanks! I would definitely look at a 50 as plan B but 40 2 cylinder would be first prize as I know that it pushes the boat well and we've established that it is lighter even if not by that much. You're right two 30's are prefect too and I want to eventually get two new ones once I've been on the water for a year or two with the cheaper motor.

Not sure about it using less fuel than a 40 HP 3 cylinder. The 55HP Yamaha's are very thirsty! But very reliable.
