Hey guys,
I’m a first time lure builder (out of necessity) but have a burning question. I’ve read almost every post in this blog to try and find out what the best method is to use and how to apply it. I’m sculpting a simple popper out of wood – stole the design from one post in the blog.
Now:
  1. What is the best to use? An eye screw or stainless wire to use as the fixture for the hooks.
How do you tie the stainless wire at the end if you have a solid piece / lure. (Make the eyes)
If an eye screw, do you use some kind of epoxy to strengthen / secure the eye?
Thanks in advance for your help and illustrations.

forget the eye screw . go full through wired its stronger faster to do and easier. drill your hole through the popper plus a hole for your belly swivel .
heres a very basic system to use , using 1,6mm stainless wire .
1. prebend the eye loop make at least 3 wraps round tag end once you form the eye.
2. thread a stainless washer on wire- so eye loop wont pull through popper hole of washer to just fit over wrapped wire .
3. push wire through popper.
4. put a screw driver in a vice and bend the tag end round it to form the bottom eye using a vice grip to hold the wire .remember to keep the screw driver tight up against the back of the popper to reduce any play in the through wire .
PM if you got any questions mate .

Hi,
I agree with TW. Through wires is the way to go.

I am making some poppers at the moment. When I do the through wiring, I'll do it step by step. To be honest, these really are dead simple to make. For me it takes a little longer than for TW because he more than likely uses a more "industrial" lathe with copy attachment. But the paint/finish takes time. Otherwise the rest is dead easy. Keep an eye on the thread entitled "Gems".
Unless TW beats me to it, because in reality he is the Chop!:fbash
