Hello,

Tell us what crew have, tow vehicle, where you plan on using the boat an how ofter? Type of fishing/use?

New or used boat?

Either way. I think a 16'-17' cat is the way I'd go. I'm a bit bias but I really think the Seacat range offers good value for money. There are so many good boats and there are also passionate boat owners. An older super cat is great too but the komazzi ones had issues. Perhaps look for an original super cat 520. Fit a pair of 60hp. Happy days...

Kingfisher, will you perhaps take kids (or mates) to Sundays or St Francis for water sports? If so, then you want a mono hull like the Explorer, the two Benguela's (of which I have owned the 17 and currently own the larger cousin, Odyssey 19, which is the same hull as the Benguela 19), Fusion 17, Ace Craft 510 built in Gordons Bay by BFC, who is a member on this forum, Mallards Swift etc. All good options. I have two mates who run Benguela 19's out of PE and regularly go the the banks for yellowtail etc.

Personally, I would stay away from rubberducks if you are going to fish regularly. I have owned an Infanta 5.2 which rode well at sea, but the small punctures from stray hooks become a ball-ache and you spend your life pumping before you want to use the boat each time. I tried the "double skinning" etc and it helps a bit, but not much.

If skiing & tubing on the nearby rivers is out of the equation, then I agree with Bennie about a 17' cat. Many options available and with a R350k budget, I would get in my car today and drive to J-Bay and buy this boat:

Angler Boats build quality is of the very best, if not the best, of the local manufacturers. Good luck!

Yes, Angler is the top brand quality wise. Consistently never see complaints about them.

Tom Cat, Yeld, Z-Craft all worth looking at. Butts are horrible lol. Very Good boats if built by John Butt, but horrible.

People say ,when done research, before i posted on sealine, that an 17 ft and less ride very hard, i dont know, most prefer 21ft and up. Ur opinion? Not sure about skiing, cause i dont have kidz yet ,not sure what the future holds. Ur boat ,what motors do u have on,and what is ur consumption? I looked at the xplorer aswell, how do u think the perform in the sea and surflaunch, when water is not stormy lol.

I had a Xpression 520 with twin 60 merc 4's. It is a great boat, 2 of us surf launched her. It was very good in rough water. Great boat and good finishes.

Absolutely true. The bigger the boat the more comfortable it will be. But hanlo g a 21 foot bot between 2 of you is a bitch.
