Wriggleswade Dam

Anybody got GPS points or landmarks to find good fish. We were there this past weekend and caught 2 small ones but really had no clue as to where to fish. Tried a lot of the trees that are sticking out. Don't have a fish finder as yet so no help there.

Thanks

I have been fortunate enough to have fished Wriggleswade a number of times with Basswacker Roy Jacobs before he immigrated. Three spots I can direct you to:

1)The pump house area to the right of the slipway. Crank the banks and cast parallel to the cement walls. There are also a number of submerged trees in the vicinity, so target with a texas rigged plastic bait.

2)Graveyard - from the slipway keep left and turn into the first bay on the left hand side. The point on the left hand side is pretty rocky and a good spot for targeting early morning or late afternoon fish.

3)If you proceed straight you go up the river which has a gazillion trees. Navigate carefully and try and go up as far as you can. Work your way back fishing Horny toad, buzz baits, spinnerbaits and crank. You can also pitch jigs/plastics to the trees - try and target the thickest limbs first.

Good luck

the dam is in the eastern cape just outside stutterheim, and it can produce some monster bass, the spots we fished and had luck was at the:

Pump House the is just to the right of the slipway, and if you keep going right you will find a stretch of rock this also good area as it once produced a 21kg bag in a comp (Dam record)

the quarry this is a portion of the dam that was done with black qarry stone it near the dam wall on the right this also a great spot.

the dam wall also can produce fish as it not really that deep but you cant fish there in comps.

the othere good spot is teh windmill this is on the left of the dam you cant miss it as it is a windmill sticking out of the water.

there is also a section where there is a dairy farm and you can see the miling house try the trees there and you will see a random tree on like a tiny island with lots of nests in it this tree has produced 3kg plus fish before

then the last spot that i know is the point on the left as you leave the slipway i got my biggest fish there.

but you really need to get a fish finder for the depth becasue that dam can go from shallow to super deep in a few meters

ok good luck happy hunting there big fish there.

and the a comp there in feb and you can win a boat and motor and a corsa bakkie it called the amatola

How many fish was that? I've never heard of that area producing so many big fish. My personal best day was back in Sept 1999 and my 5 heaviest fish weighed 15kg. I've only been on the dam once twice in the last 4-1/2 years but I'll be going in the next month with a friend of mine.

The best thing to do is get a topographical map and fish all the steep banks where the river channel swings close to the bank. Fish these areas with mojo rigged baby brushhogs, 6" worms etc and also weightless superflukes. Colours; watermelon, junebug etc. These areas always produce in summer. The dam has way too many spots to mention so it is best to find a pattern rather than a spot.
