Save just a little bit more and invest in the Sensation Rockets at around R800 each. Just bare in mind that these rods do need to be loaded properly to get more distance. P3 up to a P5 or a M1.5 or M2 with small bomb. Many of these stiffer rods are bit difficult to get used to but its worth it. Won our zone yesterday due to the fact that I could cast further on the day than the guy next to me.and with the guides fitted those rods you won't be casting off..
As mentioned on another thread, I settled on the Sensation Demon (3.5lbs test curve) almost leans toward the specimen rod side but I like that it is not as stiff as the Thunderbolt which has a 4lbs curve IIRC. I might look at Rockets for my 2nd rod.
I mostly use the gly rietvlei with an M1.5 and egg size bomb. Currently 12lbs mailine (couldn't get 10lbs) with 17lbs leader. Will switch to 5 or 7 lbs once I'm back into the swing of things again. I think I get about 80m currently but not sure how accurate my judgement is.

Hi you all,i am new to the seen,i bought my self two 12' sensation rockets and shimano 10000 baitrunners filled with .30 mm 11.9 kg ION power browny carp line.
only went fishing twice with them so far,still need to get the hang of the stiffness of the rods,
You all talk about P1,P2 and so on,what does this mean in grams

just this weekend i changed my grip and where i lay my line on my finger and voila..
as in golf looking at your target helps...

Looking at your target is fine but to get distance don't look at the target on the water as that will generally result in to short a cast
Determine your direction by means of a far aiming point ie a telephone pole on the other side of the dam.
Then aim at an imaginary point 50 degrees above that target so that you are trying to hit is in the heavens above the horizon, this will add at least 20% distance to a cast where you aim at the water.
Good news however is that the fish are in the flats at Rooiwalle and those fishing 60m on a kol throughout the day been getting the best bags in terms of numbers.
As with any venue on the Vaal, start with one bait at 60m and the other flat out and observe the venue for the first hour to get an idea of what is going on before changing baits etc (obviously if the rest of the bank is 10 min per angler per fish then change) but if it's a fish now and then per diff angler wait it out and don't pull your bait out from under the nose of a possible catch
