Which Rod from these Three

Hi,

Going to be fishing for the first time and dont have the necessary equip.

The Spot we will be fishing at is Bloemhof.

I have been through these Forums for a while now and although most of it is new to me, I am getting the picture slowly but surely.

As mentioned above, I am looking to purchase a rod and have the option to purchase one of these 3 rods.

Which would you suggest for someone that will be casting for the first time this weekend?

1. Elbe Force (c/w reel)

2. Carp Cruncher

3. Okuma Fin Chaser (c/w reel)

These are the only options I have currently and any help making a decision would be appreciated.

Sensation Carp Hunter for about R250 these days.
I don't know what budget you have, but you can also look at the Blue Marlin Vectra 360. Bought mine for R399. First cast last Saterday was over 125m agains a 7km/h wind with a P3 and bait and it was measured after taking out the slack from casting. Got even further distance after a few casts (135m still against the wind).

They don't come with reels. I use Tica Sportera reels. If I can buy new gear I would not go for any 'baitrunner' or 'baitfeeder' type reels. I would look at n decent spinning reel with a nice size spool that will assist with casting. Okuma has a reel called a Beachcaster Legend. I would go for a size 6000 as it can hold lots of line. You should be able to pick them up for about R250-R300 each. I own 3 of these Okumas and I use them for longer distances (when rowing in my lines).

The 'baitfeeder'/'baitrunner' reels are more suited for competition angling as you don't have to set the drag each time you hook a fish, but getting decent ones are going to cost you. The Okumas (or any similar specced reels) without this feature are relatively cheap, but will last you much longer than reels in the same price range that do have this feature.

I recently read in the specimen section that a lot of the specimen anglers prefer a coffegrinder/spinning reel in most of their angling.

I also bought my first angling rig last week and used Sealine a lot to help me make a decision as to what is best. I just wanted to thank all of the contributors to the forum.

I bought the tackle at Ganis in Witbank, 2 carp hunter rods and 2 Shimano Sidestab 4000 reels. Total cost was R800. I hadn't done any research about what line to get but I'll go back in the week to sort that out as my first Carp session is this weekend.

I am concerned about the fact that the reels do not have a baitrunner system. Is this not a necessity when angling for Carp? Would it maybe be better to spend an extra R150 per reel and buy a reel with baitrunner system?

Will the 4000 reel be too big for bass fishing?
