Which Bait-Boat

Guys I'm in the market for a bait-boat, & I need advice, if you guys will be so kind :). I've googled a bit, went on to the Carp King bait-boat website, browsed the topics about bait boats here on Sealine. I did get some information, saw a few for sale on junkmail & tandvleisboom.

I was hoping to get one that can carry feed as well as hookbaits (I saw some of them selling for around R6000), but I'm afraid my budget will not allow me to get one that expensive, for now anyway. So Im just looking for something reliable, that can drop my lines at max 200m.

To the guys who have tried & tested them, what are my options? Any advice on upgrades, type of batteries, chargers? Any pitfalls I should look out for? WHat about maintenance?

Any input guys will be appreciated :) & if anybody knows of a good deal, Im keen.

There are numerous decisions one has to consider when it comes to deciding on bait. Firstly the type of water you would be using it in. Example: As I fish the Vaaldam often, the wind and waves on the Vaal can make it very hard for the likes of a CarpKing, thus in my case i opted for the SUPERCAT 500.

This comes with some drawbacks. The boat is steady in rough waters, but its slow compared to other boats.

I have a mate that has a DM craft, his boat moves twice as fast as the SUPERCAT, but is extremely unstable in the heavy winds.

Also, ensure that you have a dedicated 6V battery driving your receiver. In my case I had one 12V battery driving the motor and a voltage regulator dropping it to 6V to the receiver. This becomes a problem when the battery voltage drops.....then the boat would go into circles.

Also ensure that you have a few 12V batteries, and ensure they fully charged before using. And check the battery voltage after each trip.

There are many options of boats out there, including brush-less motors and jet propulsion (like a Jet Ski). But for basics, get a boat, ensure the electronics works well on it. And I have to concur that after sales support is imperative, unless you enjoy DIY.

I have the carp king streaker 2... bigger. 2 engines makes is stronger and ill do about 2km on a pair of batteries... maintenance is cheap and easy to DIY. I fish vaaldam alot and have not had a problem yet with the big waves and the wind... bought mine second hand and had little niggles here and there over the 2 yeard i have had it, nothing mayor. If you have 4 - 5k there are guys that will custom build it for you...

i gave a carp king aswell have had it for a few years now have had no problems with it at all and at least the guys making it are in pretoria so spare's and repairs should not be a problem

i fish with the Dm craft boat never had a days problem with it. nice and fast also fish the vaaldam alot and the battries can go to 2.4km the price ranging from 3grand what i payed for mine 2 years ago.
