Where to buy Tigers

Hi

I would like to know if one can buy tigerfish to put in ones dam. I live on a banana farm in the lowveld and the dam on the farm is about 10-12 ha., and flows into the Sabie river. The dam currently have some barbers, kurpers and a few bass.

Is it legal to stock your dam with tigers?

Do you have to do an enviromental impact study?

Where can I get some tigers?

There used to be a chap called Wynand Uys in the Hoedspruit area that used to do tigers.

Sabie rivers are home to tigers so I don't think it should be a problem - however the area is governered by Mpumalanga parks so best is to check with them before you do anything

if the sabie river dont have tigers then you wont be able to stock at all.you will only be able to stock if the river system has the same fish in that you want to stock

Contact Lydenburg Fisheries. They will be able to assist you, but I doubt it very much whether you will be succesful.I don't know of any commercial tiger fish breeding programme. Francois Roux, Mpumalanga Environmental Affairs is an expert on tiger fish.

Hi all

Dr Andrew Deacon  Kruger Park did research on tigers is S.A. difficult to breed. According to my knowledge we only find tigers in 2 rivers in S.A  Komati and Pongola.

Maybe phone DR. Deacon for expert advice at Skukusa. good luck

Hi I worked in Kruger.

We found them in.....

Crocodile, Sabie, Sand River (When it had water), Oliphants, Letaba, Levuvu and Limpopo Rivers - I know this because I fished in all these systems and caught them....:fbash

I met and fished with Andrew when he was working on tigers - best fish came out the Oliphants and Letaba

You should have smacked me with a whale.. shows that we are never to old  to learn. Some S.A literature should definately be upgraded.Do you know Vic vd Wald who used two be at Vlakteplaas?

Hallo there

 

Spoken to a guy today that fished Jozini last weekend.. People said he's mad going there, it was was verry cold. On the last day before they left they fillet'ed some 'baber'.... BANNG !! ON DAD !  Caught three fish from 11h00 to 12h30 on the Sunday. One of 1kg, the other 2,4 and the last one a wopping 5kg ! Wish I had a boat... Good luck, and enjoy !:fishn
