Hi Guys

I'm am glad to say that my girlfriend of 2 years has decided to buy me a fishing rod for my upcoming B-day. ::S   Never actually thought she would though.

Obviously as she is buying and I'm new to Dropshotting I do not want the best and the most expensive rod on the market.

I was thinking about the Sensation Passion Stick 8ft Heavy rod as I already have a 7ft Shimano. Ad a Shimano Symetre 4000 to the mix and should be a pretty decent setup.

What do you guys think? Any help and advice will be much appreciated

Regards

I think she's a keeper, in this instance don't practice catch and release!!

The 8' stick should do you fine. I also have a 7' and decided to compliment it with a 9'. Look at the Shimano Beastmaster or Speedmaster for comparison.

Hey Gerhard & Streak

Thanks for the reply guys. She is a definate keeper.

I've had a look at the Beastmaster. It is a very nice rod if I say so myself. Just a tad to expensive as its twice the price of the Passion Stick, but a very good suggestion none the less. Maybe if I'm very lucky. ^^..

Have a good one.

If you can find a 9ft rod then rather get that, then you have a 7ft for the closer fishing and a 9ft for that little extra distance.

I have 7,8 and 10ft, all round I now use the 8ft the most, if I could get my hands on a 9ft I will definately be using the 7 and 9ft the most.

8ft is a nice allround rod, but a 7 and a 9foot rod is better.

Hi Neilg

Thanks for the reply.

I'll have a look at a 9ft and definately think about it. It does make a bit more sence.

What size lures do you use with a 9ft rod though?

It depends on the action/rating of your rod.

Generally its about using a little bigger lure but more important to gain more distance aswell.

I throw 1oz lures with all 3 my rods, and the longer rod definately gives me more distance, but that said, my 10ft rod is not a "heavy" rated rod.

Just remember, match your lure weight to the rating of your rod, that way you'll bring out the best in your rod !

I believe the 7ft and 9ft is the "ultimate" combination for "light angling".

To me the 10ft feels a little too big and heavy, altough I can cast a 2-3oz lure a very long distance with it.

Im am having great fun with my latest 8ft passion stick. Got my first decent fish the other day and was awesome. Plenty pulling power but can also throw a mile.
I am looking to get a slightly larger reel(3500/4000) to match it to and a lighter rod in 6/6.6ft for my slade 2500.

Nick look at the Oceano 4500J or the Exceller Plus 4000

Passion stick 8ft is a great rod - have one myself

Hi Nick

Nice!! What fish did catch?

Is a Heavy rod fine or should I rather go for a MediumHeavy?

I'm itching to land a nice cob or yellowtail or anything that has plenty of fight on the light tackle.
