I would say it is highly dependent on water colour. The clearer the water the less solid the dropshot. I generally tend to use in clear water daylight - Goldfish. In discoloured water daylight - Chartreuse. In clear water in low light conditions - like a Berkley emarald shiner or a Mcarthey Orca. In Discouloured Water - low light Conditions I tend to fish with a glow dropshot with a Paddle tale, the more movement the better.

thanks for the reply. have had very little success with the darker colours. top colours for me so far are the olive/pearl goldfish and chartreuse. have yet to catch something on the berkely range.

For any colour to be visible you need light. Early morning and late evening you dealing with low-light intensity, more so if its overcast at that time. Then size, contrast and vibration come into play. Water colour/condition will influence light penetration as well.

I find that fishing shallow, close to or on the surface at such times works. Its where your lure will be most visible as the light still penetrates shallow. Contrast of the lure in the water is important , you want it to stand out, like a silhouette. So choose a colour that shows good contrast to the current water colour.

Hope I making sense.
