Well guys today was a pretty nice day for us.
Took a nice long walk from the other side of the point past some guys who caught "net 'n paar elwe" (more than a few judging by the lump in their sack but anyway.
Took a while to find an appropriate spot, lots of rock hopping was required to scout ahead. Found a nice high rock that dropped straight dowm into between 2 and 3 metres of water. You could see all the fish swimming around - White Steenbras, Zebras, Mullets and some other models too.
My dad snuck away and cast some red bait into some foam . . ."Chris come help!" lol. He had hooked a galjoen on his first cast, before he could even take up the slack in the line.
I managed my first Jan Bruin and my first Stone Bream.
The tide chased us right to the tip of the point, where we had some more fun with the small fish, Roland and I doubling up on Blacktail.
Other anglers at the point caught a (only just just size, maybe) brusher. Later on we wondered back to the Cape St. Francis side where we fished the surf for a while. Managed some more small White Steenbras. Another angler caught a nice size one of around 6-7kg on a whole bloodworm.
This was just an exploratory trip for us. We managed to find a few decent spots and caught a fish or two along the way.
We caught - White Steenbras, Zebra, Blacktail, Clinids, Strepies, Jan Bruin, Galjoen, Karel Grootoog, Cape Stumpnose.
The Galjoen was tagged and released, measured 34cm FL
