Yesterday my dad and I went to the slipway at paradise beach, but to the right instead of left... my intention was to target some bronze bream on light tackle, but upon arrival I got remembered that the SE-er had been blowing for like a week and the water was VUIL.... ok well scrap the bream plan, will try for some kob between the reefs... 4 eel-tail barbel later I changed tactics and put out a flapped piggy...

 from absolutely nowhere I get floored. zzzzzzzzzzz... A very good run of about 30m had me thinking I was in serious trouble, but in true grey shark style, it came in after the first run and gave me hell up and down the shorebreak.. A good grey of 84cm. Tackle used was a shimano sustain 5000 with 14lb fireline and a stepped leader up to .55. The rod is a limited edition blue marlin 10ft carp rod. Its got a great action with only the tip section bending, plenty of backbone

tagged and released, and on the next cast got a sandy... Not bad for a short session

so this morning was the morning I've been waiting for for a while now, time to test out the new kayak and tackle... I recently bought myself a Tica 30 wide 2-speed. Onto that I added about 700m 100lb Jerry Brown spectra and topped off about 100m 0.80 topshot.

Put a milk crate onto the back of the kayak and paddled some baits out... First 3 baits got bites. First one was half a skipjack tuna dropped 400m out. Got pulled flat after which the bait got dropped and the sinker got bitten off. The bonito was bitten cleanly off two inches from the bottom hook, all the way through. Not a raggie bite...  so had to reset.  A short while later I detected a bite... It was shaking its head big time. Now I've caught a couple of raggies and these head shakes were in another class altogether. So once I was happy it had the bait in its mouth I pushed up the lever arm and ran twenty yards back..... VAASSSSSS!!!!

unfortunately this didnt last long as toothy swam past the back of a reef and cut me off on my mainline =(

Later on I got an 'on' on the 'light' tackle purglas /6 and DC 30... This bait was a bit closer in at about 200m, a whole chokka. Got lots of slack line and wound into it with 2 x 14/0 Mustad circles, it took a bit of line and I got it aaaallll the way to the front when the hooks pulled.. NNOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!! why???!?!?!?!!?!?

I think it had hooked itself in the throat or something. Im guessing a nice diamond or a 30kg lesser lol...

Otherwise the rest of the baits I paddled out got stuck on reef and broke off...

So a disappointing day in terms of landing fish but good because I learnt a lot of new things like even though you've got 3m 400lb steel you can still have your sinker bitten off which buggers everything up Also learnt how to catch a wave with the kayak (a Stealth Surfa btw) and how to flip it the right way up and jump back on very quickly

I was moeg already by this time. And yes, I know, I look like a bumblebee

cool. is that a harnas u wearing? where did u buy the wet suite? hows the arms feeling after the padling?

Ja but its a bit skew but it does the job. Got the wetsuit from commercial hey. Ag the arms aint too bad its the legs and back thats a bit sore today, probably from falling off so many times lol
