Hello all

Can any one give me an update on hows the tuna coming out at the canyon at the moment?

Will it be worth while to go out on a charter during December to go target large YFT?

Good yellowfin at the moment, its getting out there thats a problem however.
The deckboats had very good yfin last week. Up to 104 on a boat.
Some of the bigger commercial skiboats also had very good fish.
So ja, the yfin are there.
SE is gonna blow for a while.
Best make contact with southseasafaris.co.za for charters.
They'll get you onto the fish.

Thank you very much Kraken. Will speak to them.

Do you guys know Cuta 2 charters in Hermanus? How are they?

Don't know of them.
In the cape when it comes to tuna fishing charters, its best to stick with the established charters.
As mentioned, south sea safaris is known for putting clients onto good fish. They run from Gordons Bay
The other two charters which run from Hout bay are Two Oceans charters and Hooked on Africa charters.
These are the top 3 in the Cape.
A tuna charter does not come cheap and if it does, one should be wary.
Pay for the best, and you will have an experience of a lifetime.

Local tuna charter boats charge per use of the boat.
In other words, whether you are one person or 4, you will pay between roughly R8500 to R10 000 for the trip as a whole.
If there 4 of you, you will therefore pay at least R2000 per person.

Thanks for the info guys,i own my own boat, but to tow it all the way to Cape Town and buy all the equipment required it works out to be the price of of a boat, therefore it might be better to charter a boat with a skipper that knows the local waters, what happens to the fish that gets caught on a charter boat,do i keep the fish or does the catch go to the boat.

Fish is all yours if within your licence. However the charter boat often gets yhe fish as the client does not have the ability to take all the fish. Its not like you can go back to your hotel with 300kg of loined fish!! specify before hand that you want to keep all catch, some companies can be sneaky.

Tuna. ya there is a 90% chance your trip will be a blow out at present. you need to have a decent gap, coming down for a weekend wont cut it. There has been one fair weather day in 4 weeks!
