Video editing software?

Some advise please

Please could someone recommend basic video editing software. All I want to do is cut / join clips and add some background sound.

Howzit Bennie. 

Not sure what type of operating system you run.  If you have Windows 7, try Microsoft Movie Maker, it's easy to use and free already loaded.  If you for some reason don't have that, then a very easy to use program is Avidemux.  It's a free download here: http://avidemux-mswin.sourceforge.net/ .  It's hosted at SourceForge.  Let me know if that helps.

Thanks. I have Windows 7 but for some reason not Movie maker??!!?!

Yeah, I've used AviDemux before it wasn't very difficult when you compare it to some of the other free ones. Are you 100% sure you don't have Windows Live Movie Maker?

It should be at: Start --> All Porgrams --> Windows Live Movie Maker. Alternatively you can download it here: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-live/movie-maker-get-started

Try both of those, and use which ever one you think is easier/more feature filled.
