My very old VHF radio has reached the point where it has been returned to me, from the dealers, as "beyond economical repair", which I figured was going to happen.
I bought it second hand about 10 years ago (more like 14) and it's been exposed (on the console) to all sorts of waves and weather (it is supposed to be "weather proof, and it's been tested!!). It's only there because you need it to launch out of Durban harbour and its great to keep an ear on what happening around. From the Durban Ski Boat Club we still use 29 Megs. Thats a long story to simply ask if anyone could suggest a good replacement brand for the VHF. I have visited Skiport Supplies and Radio Holland to see whats on offer and looked at Killer Deals - problem is that there is just so many to choose from and if someone has had good (or bad) experience with a particular brand, it would be great to hear and would aid in selection.
The next problem is going to be getting the details of the radio changed on the Licence Documentation, but thats a problem for another day.
