Hi guys,
As a beginner I find that one of the biggest problems that i face with match fishing is not knowing where the correct venues are to fish?
What baits to use there?
And what fish i can find there?

please can you help me in finding some of these venues being in close proximity of the sandton area...+- 20/30 minutes

thanks,

Morning Sharon

I dont do match anymore but bellow is a list of places and baits.

Brookewood Trout farm: Large dam and top dam:Bread either surface or bottom bait. There is massive carp there, easy over 14kg so take strong equipment

Emmerentia: 10mm pop ups, bread or maize: fish along the margins along the water plants: no way of fishing further out match style because of all the canoes. You will need to feed those areas quite alot with pellets or maize. Also big carp

Lonehill: bread: You are only allowed to fish the dam wall but thats where they are: Watch for where they are feeding and place your hook bait there. No need to feed alot, maybe a handfull of broken up bread, maize or pellets. The takes are very subtle so watch your float. Average size 3kg and up

Footloose: Bread, maize whatever actually: There is carp in all the dams, average about 3kg up: You will see them feeding all the time now in winter. Feed out a few handfulls of pellets or bread. My advice would to use maize as your hook bait or 10mm pop up boilies because if you use bread you will stand the chance of catching trout and you dont want that because you will pay R90 a kg.

All of these venues have been very productive for me.

Cheers

Sorry S

Last thing, you will need to get hold of Rudes to organise a permit to fish Lonehill. Save yourself the frustration and maybe just fish the other venues I mentioned. You pay to get into Brookewood and Footloose but its worth your while and you dont get bugged and your options to get bigger carp is much better.

Pop-ups are boilies that float. BFA sell some in bottled form at most shops. Jou can have a look under the specimen section for info on hair-rigs.
