This is a simple lesson that was illustrated to me very clearly this week, that is to test the opinions and experiences of Sealine members (And to contribute when I can), as opposed to just proceeding blindly. I am not saying about everything and stupid things though.
Here is the story:
The value of Sealine, just one of the benefits, was clearly illustrated last week and I thought I should share it, for obvious reasons.
So last week I read a review of the Fin-nor '6 in 1' stick, and wrote a post on Sealine to test opinions and also where and at what price one could buy it. That was at about 7'0 clock in the morning.
I then go off into Mossel Bay and land up in the Tackle Shack in the centre of town, where I go into tackle whore-mode and R 6 000-odd later I walk out of there, quite chuffed because I got the Fin-nor stick that I wanted ordered. The price quoted by Andre Pretorius (Owner) was R 3 100, but I only paid R 3 000, because he gave me a discount of R 100.
Now here it comes: Arriving back at my laptop, there are two replies to my post of earlier the morning and it transpires that I got charged more then TWICE the price another Sealine member paid at another shop for exactly the same stick, and another member could supply me with one for R 1250 (Also brand new, unused - it is arriving per courier later this week). Other retailers in SA could supply at about R 1 650, courier costs included.
So, thank you Sealine members Pixel_Ninja and Isayah, for your assistance.
It saved me some money, or put differently, I could buy the Blue Marlin Grand Surf 14.40 ft AND the Fin-nor 6-in-1 for what the Tackle Shack charged me for just the one stick. At Extreme Outdoors in the Langeberg Mall I paid R 1 700 for the Blue Marlin, and assisted and advised by Jan and his wife in the most friendly manner.
I was going to only cancel the deal with Tackle Shack for the stick and actually left the door open to say it was a honest mistake, but ended up cancelling the whole deal as a result of the owner, Andre Pretorius, acting in the rudest manner possible. He was rude to me in the extreme,ek moes my kwaai inhou om hom nie te 'blixem' nie.
Anyway, I have learnt a lesson or two, and I hope this post will help one or two other okes as well.
