Im from the the UK but have fished a little around, there was a camping resort called Jim Fourche a couple years back which was brilliant, carp yellowfish, barbel.. camp right next to the dam only thing is that you need a canoe/dinghy to get the bait out to attract fish... unless you have a spod rod.

Hi

Vaaldam is eintlik all over n baie lekker dam om by te hengel.

I will always recommend TAGO as I look first safety as no 1 concern .
If you have bakkie or 4x4 is ok . Not really good for car now after so much rain
Bait boat or canoe is must if you want get to deep water where bigger carp is .
Casting will bring you only up to 0.5-2kg size mostly. Big once are in water that is deeper - 5 - 10 m . On casual side after 150 meters depth is rising from 3 m to about 10 m on 300 m distance.
Big barbel can be caught very close to shore in the early morning hours. In my case muddy head is no 1 - even better then plattie.
Carp is not fussy , but what is more important is to feed constantly one same spot - marker is recommended.
While on  boilies I caught on Vaal Dam more barbel then carp .
