Hi ed,

I went to Jim Fouche twice and both times the fishing was extremely well.

For carp try: Floaties with a sweet dough backing.
egg yellow mielie pips with plain dough or yellow dough.
Dips: Strawberry, red honey glow, almond, rooi banjo, pink sweets and bunspice 32. Normal mielie bomb for ground bait.

Barber: Platties, chicken liver.

Hope that works for you.
let me know how it goes ok.

cheers,

Hi ed
Don't forget fish heads hooked and squashed flat to get some flavour in the water, platties is also a bait you don't leave at home. Agree with Ryan on the chickens just don't know if you will be able to get.
Floaties, competition floaties with sweet dough backing, this time of year some cariba earthworms with one competition floatie for sure.
Dips definitely Green Almond, FX and ebony is three dips that I will make sure is in my box.

Hi Ed,

Fishing from a boat can be advatageous, but be aware of the Vaaldam winds. ::titanic:

Last two years have been awful.

Good spots to search for is directly south from Jim Fouche, almost to the other end. Try search for the old Wilgeriver, you will immediately see a huge difference in depths. The "big old daddies" keeps here.

Good Luck. I'll be at the Vaaldam next week-end, but on our annual "manne-naweek". One b ig jol.

for all the Bonanza detail required.

As the guys said above but just on this:
Onion - only Champion Dips

Or make your own: Onion in quaters - put in bowl and add sugar - let it stand for 4-5 days

Fishhead is probably the best catfish bait for the vaal.

Hi Jacques
Agree on the fish head got most of my barbel in the vaal on fish heads pull the hook with line through the skin between the bottom fins at the bottom back side of the head and set the hook just bellow the mouth, squashed the head pretty "pap" and your in for success, platties only beat this method once, but if the platties work the day they do work very well so don't let them at home, if you do stop at the T junction at Deneysville the guys are always selling platties and crabs there. Never tried onion in the Vaal but will give it a try when I get a chance to fish that water again.

Lucky Luke,

Attached view of the dam shows the position of Jim Fouche as well as the old river bed in red. Distance messured is plus minus 6km - South. Follow the redline East towards Frankfort. Beware of shallow spots and sand banks.
