Vaal Barbel - Easter Weekend

Hi All;

Took my nephew fishing for Barbel over the Easter weekend. We had a couple of small Platties that I had picked up on the way, first we tried the Vaal Marina side of the Island


A pic of Seth fighting a smaller Barbel on the boat.... (this was his first Barbel)

We caught about 5 of these small guys.

Then later that evening (18h00) with one Plattie left we took the boat out again, we decided to try the Dam Wall side of the island, cut the plattie in two, baited up two circle hooks and casted...

First bite was after 5 minutes, Seth was given the rod by his Dad and he fought it for about 30 minutes (until it gave up)

Well Done Seth !!

We did not have a scale.. Any guesses to what the weight was ?

I think that barbel is over 10kg, but it's tricky estimating them

We have guessed somewhere between 12 and 14 kgs

That would have been my guess as well.
