UJ Island Vaal dam

Im fishing UJ island this weekend, but i'm worried about all the fish spawning.

Any advise on carp bait, and whether the carps and barbels are running or too busy making caviar?

Did not know the venue is open again for fishing....Don't worry about the fish spawing. We caught well over the weekend, which included carp, muddies and grassies.
I have'nt fished there since it got closed down, but I recall devilsfork as a good basis to start off with. And distances may vary, but its deep (ish) water at that venue.

i also heard it was closed, but all the gates were knocked down, and there are always people fishing there.

thats the place next to uj where the gates are knocked down UJ itself still has security guards at the gate and the gate remains locked

Are there any ablution blocks and is it a safe venue?

If the gates are knocked down, safety is probably a concern. Went there for a day once when UJ was full, snags all over, & the grass was longer than waist height, but that was some time ago.

So was a slow weekend, Had a 20ch muddiw out for the cats.

Tail and fins cut off, gill plate cut off, and sprayed with chicken blood.

Line was in the about 80m, and i left it from saturday to yesterday. and nothing......

most fish were small Muddies and Carps.

One carp of +- 4kg, and a Grass carp of about 3kg.

Reckon the fish must be on the spawn.
