booked a cottage for the long weekend and decided to try a bit of dropshot fishing.

arrived at the cottage wed. evening asked the owners how the fishing had been...was told fishing had been bad for the past 2 weeks...then i asked about dropshot fishing...they just laughed...they said some kob had been caught in the evenings on sardines and that was about it.

took a walk to the mouth around 10 am tried a spoon for a while then put on a small fluke...cast across the mouth hooked into a 5 kg + kob...using a fly 9ft fly rod with 8 lb line proved to be a challange landing the fish between the rocks and because i had never caught a kob before i didnt know it had teeth...i tried lip landing the fish which didnt work but managed to grab it in the gills and land it.

i dont have a pic yet my wife and rory took the pics so i dont have a copy...will post one as soon as i get a copy or you can view it at the tugela mouth resort on the brag board.::S

Crankies 5kg + Cob caught @ Tugela Mouth............... note the rod in the mouth.....only way we could keep him quite

thanks.

bigror...should be big mouth for a small person who uses small hooks to catch small fish...wait till sunday no chances you will be making coffee till the cows come home...:wfish

the mouth is the best place...i found the fish move with the tide so time of day fishing is important ...i found 2 hours after the tide swing was the best to fish.

i also found most fish where caught at the river mouth...this fish was caught in the mouth on a white ztoo fluke by strike king.
