Your dogpawl is not activating...Use the small spring behind the stardrag and fit it behind the dogpawl..

I think it is your pinion gear not working properly by either being broken or the yoke plate not sliding properly. I don't think it is the dog pawl if I understand your question right because that would mean your arb bearing has gone as well. After casting and you take it off free spool does the handle turn backwards as well? I might be wrong :) just my 2 cents

How old is the reel? It may still be under warrenty.
Otherwise if u are comfortable open it up and have a look or take it to someone to have a look for you. It may be as simple as needing a clean or something might have broken.

Sounds like the pinion or the pin on the shaft that slots into the pinion or lastly the Yoke plate

Should it happen intermittently then it will be the plate or the pin on the cast control lever that activates the Yoke.

Either way it needs opening and a clean and lubrication and if required a part /parts to be replaced

hello there is your reel sorted out? Is the spool not engaging or is the handle coming back? If the spool does not engage either the pinion gears lug is damaged or the spool shaft locking pin is.

if the handle comes back it could be a few things 1 the anti-reverse pawl(dog ) is worn

2 the rachet plate it locks onto is also worn.

3 the roller bearing and sleeve are worn

4 the driveshaft is worn at the bottom and when the clutch lever is engaged it pushes the main gear far enough to cause both problems mentioned thats why its important to fit a bearing in place of the driveshaft bush even when brand new.
