The Shad Bung Trace is by far the most productive and fun ways to catch feeding Shad from structures such as piers, rocks, deep water points and from the boat. When Shad are freely feed close to the surface there is no better way to catch them.

Anyone who has fished a pier in the height of a Shad run will testify to this. When Shad are running thick a group of anglers can easily coax the fish up from deeper water to freely feed at the effective 1m range on the bung trace.

The bung is best used with light tackle. Using a 9 to 11 ft rod with a small multiplier or spinning reel loaded with anything under 0.30 mono will earn enough thrills and spills.

I baught a steel pin trace at Comercial marine in j-bay with a 3way hook soldered at the bottom and a trailing 6/O hook. Were can i find these pins to make them myself? Please PM me details. You stick the pin from the exaust of the frozen pillie and out by its gills. No sinkers added. Worked very well for me.

A small modification that I use is to fix the trailing hook, this is then hooked through the bottom jaw of the sard & out through the top, & the other ends up near the tail.. this way you can cast the sard many more times without it ending up in a U shape. Obviously make the distance between hooks the average size of your sards & you use a lot less cotton
