I thought of just hurling a thread re this topic but thought otherwise. Maybe we should keep this an interactive topic (Q and A) as well as discussion based. Therefore we could gauge people participating rather than just giving unwanted element info that could result in 40 pounder carp slaugthers.

So lets fire away !

Hi Jacques,

I would like to admit upfront that I'm one of the people (or one may use other "names" - if you ask my wife), who loves the hard work/preparation, the long wait without any baits in order to get the typical policeman dance, or screaming reel on a good size carp.
Preferred baits:
- plain mielies;(4 to 6 on a hook)on the bottom hook, fairly big carp hook - rietvley - rig; on the top hook floaties with dough;
- Tiger nuts - 2 on a hook no back up;
- 20mm boilies - on boilie traces;

Do not like to cast specially at Vaal and Bufelspoort, minimum distance 180m.(depending on the water levels in the dams in question), use bait boat or rubber duck.

Good book, braai,count stars, enjoy the beautiful surroundings,etc. - no drinking.

Your neighbors will usually make a lots of jokes,before the 3th hour and will come and help you land the fish after the 3 hour in some instances 1st hour. Without failure they will ask you to give them the fish and the answer is ... catch one of this size yourself... this one is going back.

Hi Jacques,

Thank you. Will you please share your views and experience on the use of dog food, coy fish food as an element of ground bait?
