Swimbait tackle

I dont go bass fishing very often, but when I do I make the best of it. I have always wondered how effective swimbaits are. I saw the pics of the thread "big lure=big bass", but what tackle do you use? I have a big grinder with 20lb line mated to a 7ft poseidon snoek rod and was wondering if I could use this for swimbaits. Do you think it will work?

Also what lure style work the best? Trout?

Hi surfaMike!

You could use a spinning set-up for Swimbaits ... "Fish" Chris of http://www.trophybassonly.com does ... Most guys use baitcastiing set-ups, though. Check out http://www.calfishing.com and http://www.BigBass.co.za for more info ...

What tackle will be suitable depends a lot on the type of Swimbaits you are using. Swimbaits run from about 2oz to over 8oz. With the smaller 2oz Swimbaits you could get away using a Flipping Stick-type rod. For the bigger Swimbaits only a dedicated Swimbait Rod will do. MattluresSA is going to be bringing out a dedicated line of Swimbait Rods which will be availbale in SA - check out the link on http://www.BigBass.co.za

The Minnow-type, Bluegill-type and Trout-type Swimbaits ALL work ...
