Hi everyone. THis is my first post here (Although I've lurked from time to time.) so be gentle.
I've done a forum search for Swartvlei but haven't seen much which is why I'm asking.
I'm staying at Pine Lake Marina during November and I'd like to take one or two of my bass fishing rods and try my hand at fishing artificial lures in Swartvlei. I'm wondering how many of my bass fishing skills will translate into catching a fish or two.
I was thinking of going out with a canoe in the morning once or twice and buying natural looking dropshot shad baits and fishing a few of the dropoffs. Is this a sound strategy to catch anything at all? Another idea I had was getting a shrimpy looking bait and fishing the shallows with it. Could I use any of my existing bass lures with any success? Am I being a bit naive about what should work? Are there any other tactics that are recommended? Also, I have a Cape Nature Conservation freshwater fishing license, will this be sufficient or will I need another type of license?
Also my little lightie of three is showing an interest in fishing and if I recall there are quite a few Knysna kurper swimming around the boat docks. Will a float and hook baited with some bread land a few specimins? I basically want to hook him with some easy and unchallenging visual fishing. I will definitely practive catch and release and teach him to respect and treat the fish well.
Thanks in advance for any help you guys can offer.
