Howdy all - planning a trip with junior to Sunnyside Farm on the vaal in October. Normal papgooi session for carp and barbell.

Has anybody been there lately - I have 2 questions.

1\I believe the river is not too wide and the current can be vicious at times

2\I also read somewhere the river is not very deep - something like 1.5 meters all the way? Normally prefer deeper water for the big ones.

Any other info like angling area and the bank n terms of steepness and trees?

its an awesome place. will you be staying in the chalets, tent, or river cabin?

river cabin is good for fishing, kinda steep down but does have steps and all. There is some snags in those waters, lots of them actually, if you have a canoe or similar it will not be a problem.

fishing at the chalets is nice, sandy bank with biiiig willow trees against the water. also alot of snags though.

You can also fish below the bridge, some good stroom catfish and yellows to be had. fly fishers love that part.

Its a awesome weekend place, but the snags in the water makes it a tough fishing venue.

at the chalets, the river is wide, prob 150m, at he river cabin is narrower with an island to the right.

it is not very deep
