Suiderstrand

So after the festive rush and all the Vaalies gone home, the designated beach of choice was Suiderstrand. I haven’t been to that pebble beach for a long time ,so the Saturday  Chuckie is tuning me since the morning that we go with my Van. I  get the visa  signed off ( Ja Bigben ) , pop in by my Pops and tell him 4:30am !! I head home and my Dad an chuck go pump some prawns

Next morning we depart at around 5am, cause getting Chuckie to get done quick quick is impossible! Get to suiderstrand at 7:30am after stopping at the shop to get some fresh sardine and chokka ! When I say fresh sardine, a blunt knife glides through it with making it pap !

Get to the car park only to find out that the spot we had previously parked at, is a no parking zone which means an extra 15 minute walk. Dad spots the prawn pump and tunes, take it with to get extra prawn as little has been pumped, but fork, carrying a pump is not freaking joke! Bakkie locked and chuck is out of the starting blocks virtually jogging to the spot, Quick park off at prawn bay for some prawn that took out some of my gas, jeez, it’s worse than pumping at eilandkraal!

Low Tide means rock angling, Chuckie sitting by the spot already smoking a ciggie with rod in water, informs me he had a run but fish dropped the bait .Well me unfit as hell, regained my energy and rigged up the refurbished purglas 400/3 (thanks again Mangie), bait up a prawn and flip it into the deep,Chuckie goes vas with specie no.1[/b], Travy B favourite….Skaamie .Chuckie baits up as I reel in to rebait.Chuckie vas with specie no.2[/b] ….False Bay terror…a.ka. Barbel ! I’m checking this out and decide to lace a piece of chokka with a float on, toss in and chuckie bringing out specie no.3[/b]……Karel groot oog   ! About 20metres away Dad is battling a specie no.4[/b]….a big vaal haai

Now I’m standing with rod in hand waiting for the tap tap when the line goes slack. Reel up slack and slight lift and fish runs and off! Damn, reel in to find my hook off ! thinking to myself I know who the culprit is , no steel trace in the tackle box,.80 suffix zippy is the thickest I have, put a 3/0 awa shima hook on, fillet a piece of sardine with stomach and guts covering hook! Throw in remembering that with Overberg elf, you don’t strike, you reel and the fish will hook itself[/b] (Fishing Tip)

And Baaam. Vas, a tussle incurs and now I have to negotiate an angry fish over a 5 metre bamboo patch ! Drag tight and  I start to winch which is no problem to a modded  Shimano Torium 20(just like Henning ), fish dives infront of bamboo and I pull ,lifting him over the weed  lekka  specie[/b] no.5[/b]…..52cm fat elf

Tides on the rise and a bit of wading is needed to get off the reefs, chuckie  decides to give a rock a piece of his mind by giving it a solid jab with his knee !!....Poor rock came off second best as the Fish Warrior picked himself up and marched on to the next spot! We head off to “The Bay of Plenty” just like Boepsies Leonards, where the nice Kob frequented a month before!! . get onto another reef and chuck decides he’s going to go look for some cracker with the Fresh Rooi Aas he picked up ! but dammit ,this rooi aas will make Stinkmossel proud !! what a whiff ! Lines in and smaal fish cleaning the hooks ,Chuckie returns from his fruitless endeavours , makes up a prawn bomb and tosses it in, all of a sudden line slack, tighten it and vas with specie no.6[/b]…. 57cm Kob

Tide now almost at High and we move onto the beach , baits in and still being stripped  by the type writers .dad decides he’s calling it the day at 15:30pm and tunes us we got 30 minutes before we must head back and takes the head start to the 45min walk to the bakkie. Chuck changes tactics, puts on a 5/0 tsunami circle and baits up with last piece of chokka and makes one humungous cast with will make bevid proud! What’s about to happen is definitely for the memory bank!!! bwaahahahaa……busy focussing on his rod stand and trying to put his rod in the stand, he finds it extremely difficult to put the butt in the stand only to realise he’s been pulled flat by a fish .picks up and the last tussle begins, fighting the fish with guile I check I’m going to leader the fish, only to find a beautiful specie no.8[/b] on the hook end of the line ….about a 85cm Bronze Whaler shark , enough to make Bigben proud .
