I dont personally like the diawa 12ft... feels uncomfortable.. the rod butt is way too long for me. If you get it you might need to cut it. Since you a newbie, my advice is to go with the aquapak... think they are made by kingfisher...so guess its ok quality for a starter 12ft setup... comes with a reel too. If you have a bigger budget id go for a 3piece 12ft rod... easier to lug about... fit in your boot etc. And a shimano grinder to suit.

just my opinion..

all the best

The top rod is for a multiplier reel, just checking you know..Personally know nothing about these rods but they seem like standard cheapies. Composite blanks are nice and durable and a lot cheaper than graphite but not as responsive and a bit heavier. Good for starting out and always nice to have for a backup later on when you one day snap your shiny expensive and strong but fragile graphite stick.
You will spend more on a decent reel than on a rod, especially one that will last in the salt. Look at the cheaper shimano and penn reels on your budget, I've had good experience with the shimano alivio and penn alliance? and performer reels. Get decent mono line, it is not much more than cheap stuff and also go look at some of your local tackle stores if you can and check places online where there is a bigger range..you always end up upgrading once you start taking your fishing seriously so chose carefully when you do, think about what you want to do with the tackle and rather get something in your budget when you can that will make fishing a pleasure for you.

Good luck and enjoy..Proper tackle stores are toy stores for older kids.

I also started off with those el cheapo’s from them, but all I can say is rather go to a proper tackle shop and spend a little more. You will soon find out  that it is not exactly what you need. I’m not knocking the shop but if you are only going to go fishing once in a while  it is probably okay, anything more you will need something better.

Yup, it seems so..Daiwa Sea Hunter X Surf rods are engineered for superior casting distance and perfect combination of strength, durability and sensitivity. Fitted with quality components and specialised actions these rods will get the job done. The Daiwa Sea Hunter X Spinning comes in
a 10' 6” 1-3 oz cast weight and 11’6 2-4 oz cast weight.

The 4 longer models are to be used with Daiwa Multiplier reels.

• Graphite Composite
• Medium fast actions.
• Great value for money

That from basil mannings site..

But looking on the net I'm not sure, the name is misleading. That said, it looks like a decent rod and a good compromise between budget, sensitivity and durability. Seems like decent components too and very good price. That would be right up your alley if it was for spinning reels. The lay of the blank will be specific to each type of reel and you can tell by the placement and type first eye and generally the reel placement which it is meant for. I can't really tell from pics on the net of this one.

They seem to think it is for fixed spool (coffee grinder) reels so make certain on this one..? Nice rod and sportsmans' has the best price on the web it seems..but visit a local tackle store too and look at reels and rest.. Fishing is not good for budgets haha..

For that 'budget' you can get a really decent setup. Personally, I would go with a Shimano Vengeance 12ft and pair it with a Shimano exage 5000. Great setup for spinning with lures and for bait fishing. Got to think about terminal tackle also...........

That's just the thing, you think you have it but then lures and baits and sooooo many bits and pieces fall into place ::rofl:

But i don't care, i am just gonna do it, because i have started to love fishing again..

But i am surely going to check that setup out. :)

Thanks
