Hi everyone, i am planning on doing a bit of basing at strubens dam in pta this weekend, is it still safe there? is there place to have a picnic as well?

I heard a hairline miss on she sa woman's bass record came out there last week, missed it by 200g as the story goes.

any advice would be much appreciated because the girlfriend is coming with aswell as my cuz, his wife and kid. so safety is right up there.

thanx

hi Henry

it is closed and one needs to sign in to get access... Most of the nice spots have been closed, only half the dam is accessible to fishermen. it is sorta biased towards bank anglers... Not ideal

Hey Henri...

Struben is most definitely a safe place to fish.
I fish there at least twice a weak exclusively for bass and although it is very difficult, if you stick to the basics you wont be disappointing.

Best chance for bass at that is is from 8-10am and then from 3-6pm, haven't had much luck in the afternoon

use weightless plastics as close to the reeds as possible at the inlet and outlet, in natural colors...(baby bass, w/red ect).

also its worth throwing a spinnerbait at the island we've caught a few, but that's ultimately a last resort ;)

Good luck

Its a really small dam ? I would say take the kids to the botanical gardens for a picnic and go for an afternoon session at roodeplaat or something ? Kids can have great fun at roodeplaat with the canary kurper on earth worms
