Have a look at the great info GTZA posted in
this thread for spots on the river. I love fishing at Stilbaai, there are so many options - especially for light tackle! On the dropshotting front you would probably be better off with a kayak or boat, but the river above the bridge should provide some opportunity. I've caught blacktail and cape stump of about a kilo from the rocky plate. Just on the opposite side is a popular spot for grunter. Then there's of course opportunity to catch elf/shad, garrick and kob in that area too.
You can also try the harbour wall for a variety of species and this is also a good spot to catch elf. West of the harbour you'll find a nice little bay (Skulpiesbaai) just past the reefs. I've caught lots of blacktail and cape stump in this area and it's also popular for kob. I saw a small laaitie pull a huge Hottentot from a gully not 10m from the low tide mark.... It's a really nice little spot.
I know there are some good rocky areas towards the east where I imagine you could find some nice dropshot spots. Unfortunately I can't tell you much about those as I've only been there as 10-year old. I do remember my dad had an unusual catch on that side: a pretty big "seeslang" (eel)!
Someone with local knowledge of dropshotting there should be able to giveyou specifics about the lures that work. I guess it depends what you want to target. Shad will take most lures. Plastics and poppers are good for garrick, but shad will rip the plastics to pieces so a solid popper and metal spinners may be a better option when shad are around. Bucktails could also work and may even pick up a kob if worked close to the bottom. A leadhead with a piece of worm bait should work for blacktail and cape stump. Catching a big spotted grunter would be a nice prize, but I have no idea what lures they take - usually catch them with prawn or worm bait.
Ai! I wouldn't mind a holiday in Stilbaai either. Have fun!
