Hi Gertvm.

There will be a fishing tournament in April in J-Bay (2-7 April). :fishnNot sure if it it regional or national but you will most likely find out alot more from the guys going there. Heard that there will be lots of locals. Myself will be there as well (Team: Tvl Shore Angling).::gp::::gp::::gp::

to start out , try kabeljous surf. start where the beach and rocks meet. walk and spin your way 2wards the gamtoos area. just as far as u want lol. throw spoon and predator/chiselnose plugs. caught some lovely shhad there a weeks back. look for mullet in the surf and have a throw there. best time early mornings or just before sunset. got mine early morning , had some bumps in the afternoon but no takers. soon that will become my permanent spot as im moving closer to town. good luck

ps, u could always try walskipper if u want to have some fun with razors lol

Thanks for the advise. I will definently try it from 26 March when I come down to Jbay.

Did you ever try on low tide at the rocks on the right hand side of Kabeljous?

I will throw Onde Anda, Iron Candy, Halco Scorcer etc?

Any other tips or advise? This will be my very first spinning in  the sea!!!

Hope to get something, only catching for the fun - catch and release.

Were you moving to?

what tackle do you use for your spinning?

jakaranda hof near die vrieskas

10ft loomis spin with , now , a penn powerspin 6000
8.6ft exceler with either slade or sedone4000

gona customise the 13ft loomis some more. sending it to omm braam for a butt extention to spin with it. and maybe try and shorten it to 11ft

come on weekend. sunday its me, the 10ft, a bucket of sandprawns , my lures and kabeljous!!!!!

as promised:

went this moring spinning at kabeljous. not much happening, 1kob of 71cm caught by a oomie that left when i arrived @ 6, probably breakfast lol

was back there 13h00 and stayed till 17h00. pumped prawns in kabeljous lagoon but only caught blaasoppies, lost a leker fish which bit me of on a 1/0 longshank and sandprawns.

the i spinned a bit, got a 44cm shad, went dead after that.changed back to bait, few bumps here and there.

15h30 baited up with redeye, and got smashed. again and got smashed, the rigged a makie fillet and decided not to put a leader to the braid, and got a baby bronzie. baited up again and got smashed again. the 2 ooms to my left caught 6 bronzies in an hour and half. estimate the largest at about 1m.

threw a sard tail and got another 46cm shad. had some Currie fish today lol.

lessons learnt:

need to make more knots than the spyker
and i believe with the right light tackle setup a 15-20kg bronzie can be landed.

bait worked, spoon worked. nice gullies on high and low tide

Did you fish in the Kabeljou's laggon Roland or into the sea. Was in J-bay for 2 days in December, didnt fish, just came to visit a mate. Wanted to though, wasnt enough time cause he and my other mate dont fish. We took a run along that stretch of beach. Very beautiful. 2 guys were fishing for sharks and steenies, hadn't caught anything yet, it was about 6:00 pm, water looked beautiful.

On another note about J-bay. Have you guys been to "Die gat" it is a place where they jump from high rocks into the a deep pool on the river, that was awesome!
