A lot of thimes Specimen Anglers pay atention to their main gear (rods, Reels, Rigs etcetc) and most of the time put a spod rod set-up together that is made out of the "left overs".

I made the same mistake and payed dearly in my first league session. So did some research and kitted myself out with:

- Rod: Fox Spod Rod with 5lb test curve

- Suffex Braid 20lb (0.18mm) - the thinner the better ---> Thinner line improves distance.

- Shimano 6000GTE - cos thats what I had (an option here is to look at the quality of the spool and how easy the line strips from the spool)

This set-up is currently giving me 100+ meters with 7-10 ounces in bait ----> and wait for it - MY SPODS ARE NOT GOING AWOL !!

The braid is also stong enough for you to clip in and not be sacred of breaking off should you cast into the lineclip

Off the subject Jacques - looking at polefishing for dipping for carp and barbel on the artlure side of things.
Any Idea where one can look at pole fishing rods in SA.
They're the ones with the elastic in the Butt section - no reel attached.

Thanks buddy
