SPEARFISHING OR FREE DIVING COURSE GARDEN ROUTE

Hi Guys

I am really interested in giving spearfishing a go.
I did a boat dive with 2 guys which did not go too well as for the fact that I could not reach the bottom at 10 meters.
So i was wondering, where can one attend a course r training for our shallow waters to start with.
I basically do every asset of fishing and would like to add spearfishing to that list.
I am practicing my static tables and can do 3 min and 15 sec but under water I know it will be much less.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

A course is a very good idea. I did the Trevor Hutton course with a few mates, all of us 30 metre divers and we all agreed that it was well worth the money. Learnt a lot.

However. You will only benefit from any freediving course if you have some diving experience. As you are able to get into the water, assuming you live in George, get busy with some shore diving and being comfortable in the underwater environment first. You say you did a boat dive and perhaps these guys can point you in the right direction as to where to start with locations and kit. If you can get to a pool which is over 2 metres deep to do a bit of training it would be a great help. Remember to have someone keep an eye on you when training and diving.

Hi,

Trevor's course is really worth it. I organised it here on the Garden twice (once In knysna in 2010 and again in Mossel Bay in 2011). I think its maybe time I organise with him to come down again, but will need at least 5 divers to make it worth his time...So if you know of 4 other Garden Route spearos that are keen, give me a shout (Or get hold of Trev) and lets see what we can get going.

I am based in George

I will be attending a freediving course in Cape Town the weekend of the 11 and 12 July.
Hopefully that will help a bit.
Then I can pop around by the guys in Kuilsrivier and get the gear that I need.

Hi

Doing the course through Pure Apnea.
Leaving 2morrow and back on Tuesday, will keep you updated.

Hopefully I can get my gear in Cape Town and be ready when I get back for a couple of practice dives with someone?

I mostly fish from my kayak at out at sea and was wondering if anybody has ever spear fished from their kayaks?

Freedive course done.what an awesome experience!
Would recommend it to anybody!
Are there any guys that could take me on a shallow water dive and fish in our area?
Know there are a couple of cowboys out there and would rather like to try it with a calm an collected dude if there is one? Lol!
