Hey Steve

Sounds like lots of fun, but i am just wondering what type of fish can you shoot in the area, i have heard that false bay is one of the saddest places to dive.

What are your thoughts...

Hey :)

The bay can really deliver on occasions with massive shoals of yellowtail coming right into the bay at times, or sitting on the offshore banks/pinnicles. The reef diving can be tough but if one looks a little harder there are great fish to shoot.

As far as fish for the comp go, the main species that most guys will shoot are - Hotties, Galjoen, Red Roman and John Brown.

The more difficult to find species in the area are Jutjaw, Blacktail, Red stump, Villies, Knifejaw, Bronze bream, Two tone finger fin, Bankie's, white steenbras, Geelbek, Kob and Katonkel

Hopefully some Yellowtail will come out for both the shore divers and boat divers.

All the best

I must admit you sound more enthusiastic about false bay than most, but of the fish that will be targeted, they realistically will probably weigh less than 2 kg's each, which isn't very big.

I have also heard that vis in the bay is generally disgraceful, but then i have also heard stories of you diving in 2 meters of vis at struis - you must be a pretty hard oke....

But shot for the info and good luck for the comp, on that note have you got any tips....

Hahaha

True, most of the fish will be small but that doesn't make them any easier to shoot.

Vis wise, the cleanest area's are normally Millers Point, Smits or Buffels bay.

Fishwise for shore diving - Caravan, Smits and Rooikraans can produce multiple species. SW reefs can produce nice hotties and gullies

Just be aware of the dangers.

But all depends on the conditions on the day

I still think that the guys on the boats are going to have a distinct advantage... but hell you need a challenge every now and then...
ever thought of making the points a percentage of what the fish is to the record... Gletwyn Rubidge ran an online competition like that and it worked very well...
