Soft plastic lure making material in SA

Hi everyone,

Just thought I'd share this with you. I know a lot of guys want to make their own soft plastic lures and the biggest problem used to be the availability of plastisol.

I found these local Pretoria based guys and just ordered some plastisol from them. (Haven't used it yet, but someone else on a bassing forum where I am also a member made some lures from their plastisol and seems quite happy with the end product).

Their site is still quite new, but they are updating as they get more products available.

(I'm in no way whatsoever associated with them, just thought I'd share this with all the DIY'ers)

Would it be suitable for making skirts for trolling lures, as I have been making my own konas for years, but have to rely on readymade skirts which are pricy and not always available in the size or colors I require. Thanks

Hi vis blik, the plastisol that these guys sell is the soft plastic they use for making bass style plastic baits and like the Mccarthy swim baits.

I'm not 100% sure what the skirt material you require is made of. Isn't it a type of silicone?

By the way, I've tried out the plastisol over the weekend and it works great. I'll be pouring my own plastics from now.

yes you can use it , you just need to add hardener to the plastisol. Heres a pic of one I made myself. Add 10% hardener to the standard plastisol.

I am going to try that + clear silicone rubber when I am next in CT. AMT has some awesome products there.

The skirt in the above pic took about 10 minutes to make , the nice thing is that off cuts of plastisol can be reheated and reused so you don't waste, also there is a big variety of colours and effects you can make.
